New House for Owner – Influenced by the preferred Cape Vernacular style in Val de Vie, the design aimed to satisfy those requirements, while offering up a modern and unique design. Conceptually the home looked to be modern in its approach to aesthetics, as well as function, by providing a strong link to its context. The result was an approach which aimed to separate different areas of the home according to function, namely arrival, entertainment and private. These separate areas are then to be linked with a circulation spine using modern robust materials and designed in such a way to invite the outside space indoors.
Central to all of this will be the pool and braai area. Acting as a courtyard type space, shielded from the harsh South East winds, and allowing for year-round entertainment. The space acts as a threshold joining place between all three spaces allowing for activities to flow freely between spaces.
